About

Dr Michael J Pitcher PhD

I am a Computational Biologist and Bioinformatician working as a Senior Research Fellow at King’s College London (KCL).

Born in Wrecsam, Wales and raised in Shropshire, England, I completed my BSc undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Keele University in 2010. After working in industry as a software developer for four years, I returned to academia and studied for an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at the University of St Andrews, Scotland in 2014.

Following that in 2015, I continued at the University of St Andrews, completing a PhD in computational modelling of within-host Tuberculosis (TB) dynamics in a multi-disciplinary project between the Schools of Computer Science and Medicine, supervised by Prof Simon Dobson and Prof Stephen Gillespie.

Since January 2020, I have been working for King’s College London. Firstly with Prof Jo Spencer at the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology, and latterly as a Senior Research Fellow in Bioinformatics for PharosAI, a joint initiative between KCL, Queen Mary University and two NHS trusts to democratise cancer AI.
